Fast and thermal neutrons attenuation through micro-sized and nano-sized CdO reinforced HDPE composites

The fast and thermal neutron attenuation properties through polymer composites based on high density polyethylene (HDPE) reinforced by micro-sized nano-sized Cadmium Oxide (CdO) particles with weight fractions of 10% 40% have been investigated. This study was carried out to present a new composite material HDPE filled CdO in the form micro nano be used as promising radiation shielding material. were fabricated compression molding technique characterized scanning electron microscope (SEM). subjected neutrons generated from 238Pu–Be source activity 12 × 109 Bq detected Stilbene scintillator. determined terms transmission composites. activation method applied using Indium foils covered detector epithermal fluxes upon exposure flux 241Am–Be source. It is clear this that transmitted for case CdO/HDPE are less than composites, however, capture inside more probable at same fraction. Tensile mechanical testing has conducted showed particle addition percentage size significant effect Nano superior compared CdO/HPDE level.
